Books on Wheels
What is Books on Wheels? Books on wheels is a service that brings
the collection of the Berwick Public Library to people who cannot
come to us. A library clerk makes regular visits to assisted living
and nursing homes, daycare and preschools, and private homes on a
regular basis to check out materials. Items available include
fiction and non-fiction, large print books, books on tape, movies,
and music CDs.
What is the cost? There is no cost for eligible
patrons. The program is funded through the support of the Berwick
Area United Way and individual contributions.
Who is eligible?
Eligible patrons include most residents of our service area who
cannot get to the library due to illness, injury or handicap. This
consists of the temporarily homebound as well. Our service area
currently includes Berwick Borough, Briar Creek Borough, Briar Creek
Township, Nescopeck Borough, Nescopeck Township, and Salem Township.
How long may I keep materials? The individual and our Books on
Wheels clerk will set up a schedule that works for the patron.
Normally we schedule visits every two weeks and most materials may
be renewed at the next visit if necessary.
How does it work? A staff
member will deliver books and other materials to a home or
organization on a regular basis. The clerk will take the materials
to the person's home, help them with their choice, and return
unwanted material back to the Library.
What is available? Regular
print and large print adult books, regular print children's books,
Music CDs, books on CD, and books on tape. Almost everything you
would find in a typical library visit.
How soon will I get the
items? That depends on the current schedule of deliveries. Our Books
on Wheels clerk will discuss eligibility and schedules at the time
of registration. Occasionally there is a waiting list for this
service.
How do I sign up? To request Books on Wheels
service please provide us with the following information. The Books
on Wheels coordinator will contact you to make arrangements or you
may call the library.
